Sheffield United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Jordan Ayew on a free transfer.
Sheffield United were the only team in the Championship that didn't spend a penny in the 2026/27 summer transfer window, and they've got an underwhelming start to the second tier campaign to show for it.
Their only win of the new league season came against Bolton Wanderers in gameweek 4, but they've since fallen to a 3-1 defeat against Norwich City and sit 15th in the standings.
Manager Chris Wilder has emphasised the Blades' need to utilise the free agent market -- particularly in the centre forward department -- and they're seemingly edging closer to adding their preferred target.
As per transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke, Sheffield United are in advanced talks to sign Jordan Ayew on a free transfer.
The news comes just over 24 hours after journalist Alan Nixon reported that fellow Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers were plotting a move to sign the Ghanaian, but the Blades appear to be ahead in the race for the 34-year-old's signature after it was revealed that he was present at the club's training ground for talks.
Sheffield United need to free up a place in their squad to sign Ayew, but Wilder appeared optimistic that a solution will be reached when speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield.
He said: "We have to move one of the players out, which is becoming a problem.
"He's, at the moment, a part of the 25-man squad. A player that I inherited so that's becoming a difficult scenario but hopefully we've found a solution to that.
"The market for a particular player, especially a forward, is a very small one. But we feel we've found somebody who can add versatility, availability, experience as well."
Ayew is a free agent after his contract with Leicester City expired following the club's relegation to the Championship, and the Blades will hope that his adaptability can aid them as they look to improve on a 13th placed finish in the second tier.
