Sheffield United are looking to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City for the duration of the 2026/27 season.
Phillips joined the Blades on loan in January but his game time was limited to just three appearances due to a combination of injury and suspension.
Manager Chris Wilder is keen to secure another loan agreement for next season as he looks the guide the club into the upper echelons of the Championship.
United endured a difficult and inconsistent campaign in the 2025/26 season as they finished in the bottom half of the Championship following a poor start under the stewardship of Ruben Selles.
The club's hierarchy will be expecting an improvement and a promotion challenge next season, with Phillips viewed as a key part of that jigsaw.
Phillips still has two years remaining on his healthy Manchester City contract, which almost rules out any chance of a permanent transfer this summer.
The 30-year-old joined the Citizens for a fee of £45 million in 2022 but he has consistently struggled for game time and Sky Sports News have reported that another loan move is on the horizon.
He has made just 32 appearances for the club and has spent time out on loan at West Ham United, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United in recent seasons.
With his last England appearance coming in 2023, it is unlikely that Phillips will be able to force his way back into the international picture.
But if he can return to fitness, he could prove to be an extremely value asset in the Championship and one that inspires a promotion challenge at Bramall Lane.
