Serena Williams has confirmed details of her comeback to tennis, with the 23-time Grand Slam winner set to return and play doubles at Queen's.
Williams, whose last professional appearances came at the 2022 US Open in her native New York, will play alongside Canada's Victoria Mboko at Queen's, where she has asked for a wildcard.
The 19-year-old Mboko -- who is 25 years Williams's junior -- when asked about the rumours, had recently refused to be drawn, saying: "I think for me I want to kind of let the moment [be] for her."
Williams never officially confirmed her retirement, rather saying she was 'evolving' away from tennis, and is now set to return. Rumours have ramped up of late with Williams re-entering the testing pool and posting videos of on-court workouts on social media.
Williams remains one shy of the all-time Grand Slam record of 24, having lost in the third round of the 2022 US Open, and is now potentially targeting appearances at Wimbledon in June and the US Open in August.
Williams, who amassed nearly $100,000,000 in prize money in a legendary career that saw her hold all four Slams in 2003 and then again in 2015, last won a Grand Slam at the 2017 Australian Open while in the early stages of pregnancy.
Williams made back-to-back Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2018 and 2019 but lost all four in straight sets.
