"Five rounds at most" - Ryan Garcia makes bold Conor Benn prediction

Ryan Garcia has vowed to end Conor Benn's WBC welterweight world title dream inside the opening five rounds of their blockbuster showdown in Las Vegas this weekend.

British star Benn is returning to the 147lbs division for the first time in four years to pursue world championship honours for the first time following back-to-back middleweight contests with Chris Eubank Jr and a 150lbs catchweight scrap with Regis Prograis.

The Zuffa fighter has recently revealed details of the 'brutal' challenge he has faced in cutting weight for his upcoming clash, sparking fears he could be undercooked by the time he steps through the ropes come the early hours of Sunday morning.

Whilst Garcia refused to be drawn into any issues his opponent has had during his training camp, he has boldly predicted that he will deliver a statement-like stoppage during the early exchanges of their hugely-anticipated clash.

"I’m here to make a statement, I’ve not been shy about that -- I’ve said five rounds and below," the 28-year-old Californian told ESPN this week.

That means I’m coming with mean intentions and I’m not here to dance my way to a decision, but I’m also not here to be stupid.

"But would it [an explosive knockout] be amazing? Yes!"

Despite Benn's difficulties in shedding the pounds for his first bout at welterweight since stopping Chris van Heerden in 2022, the Briton has spoken with undoubted confidence in the weeks and months leading up to fight night.

"I don’t care how confident he is or if he’s not -- I don’t really put too much mind into that," Garcia added in an in-depth interview this week.

"You can be happy, you can be confident, but your body has a breaking point and your mind has a breaking point.

"Skills, experience pays dividends in the ring, but all that goes out the window when the fights starts because you’ve got to do it now.

"I can be super confident in playing a video game I’ve never played before but them I’m playing a guy that knows how to play it -- I’m going to lose, I don’t care if I believe in it or not."

Garcia vs Benn is being streamed globally on DAZN, with fight fans in the United Kingdom and Ireland able to watch the main event live at around 04:00 (BST) on Sunday 13th September.
