Raheem Sterling looks set to be on the move again this summer with his move to Feyenoord reportedly in danger of coming to an abrupt end.
After finding himself frozen out at Chelsea as one of the club's highest-paid players, Sterling departed by mutual agreement in January in a bid to revive his career.
Despite reported interest from numerous clubs across the continent Sterling ultimately opted to join Robin van Persie at Eredivisie side Feyenoord, signing a deal until the end of the season as a free agent.
Getting back to match fitness after an extended period on the sidelines that was outside of his control was always going to be difficult for the four-time Premier League winner, but it's fair to say the move to the Netherlands has not gone to plan.
Sterling has managed is yet to find the net across six appearances in what has been a challenging period for the Dutch side, as they have failed to keep pace with runaway leaders PSV in the title race.
Recent reports have claimed that the club are not considering extending his contract when the campaign comes to an end, and Sterling will again be available on a free transfer in the summer.
With that in mind, we've taken a look at some potential options for the 31-year-old.
At this stage of the career, a move to Major League Soccer could be perfect for a player of Sterling's standing in the game.
A number of former England internationals have chosen to enjoy the sunset years of their career stateside, with the high-profile arrivals enjoying the benefits of the glitz and glamour of the US in a less-intensive playing environment than Europe's top five leagues.
While it is unlikely that Sterling would be able to match the reported £300k-per-week wages he earned at Stamford Bridge, as a Designated Player he could make a comfortable living in the MLS.
With that said, reports have previously suggested that Sterling has been keen on remaining close to London to be near his young family, particularly with his son Thiago currently being in Arsenal's academy.
When it comes to maximising his earning potential, the Saudi Pro League is undoubtedly the best option for Sterling at this stage.
Just a few short years ago players like Jordan Henderson were enticed to move to the gulf state, with astronomical sums on offer to make the switch to the burgeoning Pro League.
Since then however the Pro League have changed tack in their approach, moving away from the policy of big-name signings as a means to develop the league's reputation.
Add to that the ongoing instability in the region and the likelihood of Sterling turning out in Saudi Arabia is unlikely, but not completely out of the question.
While it may appear that Sterling's days as a Premier League player are behind him, the forward was still an important player for Chelsea just two short years ago - netting 8 Premier League goals in Mauricio Pochettino's sole season at the club.
His time in Rotterdam has done little to improve Sterling's reputation, but the 31-year-old has shown brief flashes of the player that was a key component in Manchester City's all-conquering side - with an inch-perfect assist for Ayase Ueda's winner against Excelsior last month.
His history in the top flight could be a valuable asset to a team lacking in Premier League experience, potentially making Sterling a shrewd signing for a team like Coventry City ahead of their return to the top flight.
Before making his ill-fated move to the Netherlands Sterling was said to be in talks with Marco Silva over a potential short-term deal at Craven Cottage.
While Sterling would be unlikely to be a starter at Fulham, Silva has previously employed a veteran winger in a rotational role to good effect in the form of fellow ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star Willian.
With Harry Wilson linked with a move away from Fulham this summer when his contract expires, the club will be looking to bolster their options on the flanks and Sterling could be a viable option off the bench if he is able to get back to full fitness over the summer.
