The generational great Messi got the ball rolling with a brace in his country's 2-0 success over Austria, and that despite missing an earlier penalty, before Real Madrid's French icon Mbappe bagged two of his own in Les Bleus' comfortable 3-0 win against Iraq.
Then, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Manchester City linchpin Haaland continued on from where he left off against Iraq a few days earlier, by hitting his 58th and 59th international goals in a pulsating clash with African qualifiers Senegal to ensure it's still those big names leading the charge in the race for the top goalscorer gong.
