Potential replacements for David Egan as Amo retained jockey

Despite reports that David Egan will continue to ride for Amo Racing, his position with Kia Joorabchian's enterprise appears to be under serious threat.

The rumour mill was awash with whispers that Egan had quit as Amo's number one jockey, however, it has since been confirmed that the Irishman will stay on.

However, from now on, the owners will adopt a 'best available' policy for its big race runners.

Amo are known for their volatile approach to the game; hiring and firing numerous jockeys, trainers and racing managers in the few years since they were established.

With Egan's position as de facto number one facing uncertainty, we take a look at some potential options to replace him...

Horse Racing

Rossa Ryan

Rossa Ryan was Amo's first retained rider in 2021, enjoying a rather successful time of it in the plate before having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The Arc-winning pilot bagged 26 winners from a 129 British rides during his first year in the job, performing at an impressive 20% strike-rate.

Ryan does still take the occasionally ride for Amo and ended a near one-year gap without a Group success, taking the Minstrel Stakes aboard Power Blue at the Curragh in July.

Rowan Scott

Signed to a retainer up until the end of 2026, Rowan Scott has enjoyed a fruitful spell as Amo's second jockey.

Last October, Scott rode in his first Group 1 for his bosses, finishing fifth on Cathedral in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket and, in May of this year, he rode subsequent Group 1 runner-up Ancient Egypt to victory in the Listed Newmarket Stakes.

If Egan's agreement does come to an end with Amo, then they could reward Scott with the top job.

Frankie Dettori

It's a bit of a stretch, but Frankie Dettori has been known to pull a fair few U-turns during his time in racing.

The 55-year-old's latest retirement from the saddle came in February following a short stint in South America and he has since been helping to oversee Amo's growing position on the global stage, serving as their brand ambassador.

Dettori is set to ride in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster later this year and a more permanent return to race riding would be straight out of the Italian's playbook.
