Peterborough United have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Abdoullah Ba.
According to widespread reports, the 23-year-old will sign permanently at London Road, ending a four-year stay in the North East of England.
The midfielder was a key player for the Black Cats during his first two years at the club, however he has fallen out of favour in recent times and was limited to two appearances in the National League Cup in 2025/26.
Ba, who represented France at U16, U17, U19 & U20 level, is expected to complete his move to Posh in the coming days; subject to a medical.
He made his way to the Stadium Of Light off the back of a title-winning campaign with French outfit Le Havre and was an important player in his early Sunderland days, making 46 Championship appearances in his first two seasons.
However, Ba was not part of Regis Le Bris' plans under the club and secured a loan switch to Dunkerque in February 2025. Game time has been extremely hard to come by since he returned to his parent club, playing just 286 minutes last season.
At his best, Ba was a dynamic, combative and intelligent midfielder in two Championship campaigns. If Posh manager Luke Williams can help him rediscover his best form, then he could turn out to be quite the coup for a League One side.
Peterborough started their season with an EFL Cup victory over League Two title-fancies Bristol Rovers and kick-off their third tier campaign with a tough trip to Bradford.
If the move goes through, Ba will become their seventh summer signing, as they aim to justify odds of 6/1 to finish among the playoff places.
