Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland is a free agent this summer but his performances in the World Cup mean he is unlikely to be short of offers in the transfer window.
Former Aston Villa man Nyland pulled off several top saves to deny Brazil on Sunday as Norway stunned the South American giants, winning 2-1 to set up a quarter-final showdown with England on Saturday.
The 35-year-old has been instrumental in his country's run to the latter stages and, following the recent expiry of his contract at Spanish side Sevilla, will be assessing his options at club level when the World Cup is over.
Following his eye-catching display against Brazil, Nyland was asked if he had received any offers from any clubs yet this summer but he played down the transfer speculation, insisting he "hadn't checked his phone", although he admitted he was open to offers when joking teams "knew who to call" if they wanted a new goalkeeper.
Nyland has been with Sevilla for three years but his time there officially came to an end at the start of July when his deal expired.
He has played 66 times for the Spanish outfit, keeping 16 clean sheets, but they opted not to offer him fresh terms ahead of the World Cup.
However, Nyland's fantastic displays in North America may force his most recent employers into a rethink and they could now offer him a new one-year contract to extend his stay.
With his most recent stint in club football coming in Spain, plenty of Sevilla's rivals will be well aware of Nyland's talents.
The veteran keeper may be viewed as too old by some clubs at 35 to be signed as a new first-choice this summer, but recently-promoted Deportivo La Coruna could look to Nyland as a viable option.
Deportivo will be after experience to help them readjust to the Spanish top flight and Nyland, who has 75 caps for Norway, might just fit the bill.
The keeper has 59 La Liga appearances under his belt and that sort of expertise could be handy for Depor following their promotion back up to the top flight.
Nyland was at Villa for a couple of years between 2018 and 2020 and he made a total of 30 appearances for the West Midlands outfit.
While he seems unlikely to return to Villa Park as a first-choice stopper this summer, Unai Emery could view him as a more than able deputy and his past links to the club could make a transfer back to England straightforward.
Villa, like several other Premier League clubs, will have been watching Nyland's impressive international displays and will be heartened by the fact he would come cheap as a free agent.
The fact he is a former Villa player may not rule out City rivals Birmingham making a move for Nyland. In fact, the keeper's previous spell in the Midlands may mean he would be open to returning to the area and a switch to St Andrew's is a possibility.
Ambitious Blues will have designs on seriously challenging for promotion up to the Premier League in the upcoming campaign and a player like Nyland in their squad could help them achieve it.
He is no stranger to the Championship, either, following short spells in the second tier with Norwich, Bournemouth and Reading after leaving Villa in 2020.
German second-tier side SpVgg Greuther Furth were linked with Nyland in January and may decide to come back in for him in the summer transfer window.
The keeper has played in Germany with Ingolstadt and, more recently, RB Leipzig, so a switch back there may appeal, especially if Greuther Furth can offer him regular first-team football next season.
