Next St Mirren manager contenders

We take a look at the potential candidates to be the next St Mirren manager as Stephen Robinson leaves the club to join Aberdeen.

Robinson won the Scottish League Cup with St Mirren earlier this year and he leaves with the club tenth in the Scottish Premiership table.

Craig McLeish, Jamie Langfield and Allan McManus will take temporary charge at St Mirren until a replacement is found.

Here are the current contenders to be the next St Mirren manager...

Next St Mirren Manager Contenders

Darren Ferguson

Darren Ferguson has been out of work since being sacked at Peterborough United in October 2025.

The 54-year-old has been linked with numerous positions in recent weeks and he has a wealth of experience in English football.

A move to the Scottish Premiership could be a good fit for both Ferguson and St Mirren.

Steven Naismith

Former Hearts boss Steven Naismith is currently the assistant manager of the Scotland national team.

He's likely to be unavailable until after the World Cup and time will tell whether St Mirren will want to make a permanent appointment before the end of the season.

Naismith has made no secret of his desire to return to management and he could have the ideal platform to kickstart his managerial career in Paisley.

John Hughes

John Hughes has previously managed Falkirk, Hibernian, Livingston, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Raith Rovers, Ross County and Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish game.

His best spell came at Inverness where he guided the club to a third-placed finish and the Scottish Cup.

His last spell at Dunfermline ended disappointingly but he may feel that he still has more to give in management.

Jack Ross

Does Jack Ross have unfinished business at St Mirren?

He guided the club to promotion from the Scottish Championship in 2018 before departing for Sunderland.

He's since had spells at Hibernian and Dundee United and it's likely that his potential return to Renfrewshire would be welcomed by supporters.
