Next Manchester United manager odds

Take a look at the latest odds to be Manchester United manager on 1st January 2027.

Michael Carrick has come under increasing scrutiny at Old Trafford following a dismal start to the season. Manchester United have won two of nine games in all competitions -- both at home, to Ipswich Town and Sabah -- keeping just one clean sheet in the process.

While results have been alarming, performances have been worse, with United dismantled by Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend before taking an undeserved lead through Bryan Mbeumo. Despite Spurs going down to 10 men five minutes later, Roberto De Zerbi's side scored a stoppage-time equaliser, marking the second time this season the Red Devils have dropped points in the Premier League to a side who'd had a player sent off.

While United were improved against Atletico Madrid in midweek, the 20-time English champions were too easy to break down and suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Of all 38 fixtures on the Premier League calendar, a trip to Elland Road is probably the last one Carrick needs right now. Amorim was dismissed after the trip to West Yorkshire last season, and it's hard to see United getting a positive result on Sunday, heightening the pressure on Carrick further.

bet365's Steve Freeth said: "Carrick was already under scrutiny before kick-off against Atlético Madrid, and conceding after just 53 seconds at the Metropolitano turned the pressure up a notch.

"However, we're backing the Englishman (6/4) to still be in charge at Old Trafford come the turn of the year, with Lisandro Martínez's punchy post-match comments aimed more at the boardroom than the dugout.

"Either way, this debate will undoubtedly run until Sunday's clash at Elland Road—the very place where Ruben Amorim's tenure came to an end. Of the alternatives, it's the out-of-work pair of Antonio Conte (4/1) and Eddie Howe (5/1) who lead the market, while Brighton's Fabian Hürzeler could also be drawing some admiring glances."

One thing Carrick has in his favour right now is a lack of suitable alternatives. Eddie Howe's limitations as a coach have been laid bare when competing in Europe, while Antonio Conte's cycle of upturn in form, fall out with board, departure is all too predictable.

Julian Nagelsmann fell out with Bayern's players during his spell in Munich leading to his dismissal, while Hurzeler is just 33 years old and hasn't long signed a new contract with Brighton.
