Rudi Garcia and Belgium have opted to part ways following the expiry of the manager's contract.
The Frenchman -- who was appointed in January 2025 -- oversaw a respectable 2026 World Cup with the Red Devils, topping the group and beating co-hosts USA before losing to eventual winners Spain.
The Belgium national team are nearing the end of an era -- with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku into their 30s -- and so whoever succeeds Garcia has a sizeable task at hand.
We take a look at the potential candidates to take the Belgium hotseat.
Mark van Bommel
Dutchman Mark van Bommel is among the names being linked to the vacant Belgium role.
The 49-year-old -- who represented The Netherlands on 79 occasions during his professional playing career -- has been out of a job since leaving Royal Antwerp in May 2024.
He is highly thought of in Belgium after guiding Royal Antwerp to the Belgian Pro League and Belgian Cup double in the 2022/23 campaign, and so it comes as little surprise to see his name put forward for the national team role.
Sebastien Pocognoli
Tentatively linked with the Burnley job following Scott Parker's Turf Moor exit, Sebastien Pocognoli is amongst the Belgian managers on the market after leaving Monaco in June.
He -- like Van Bommel -- enjoyed success in Belgium's top-flight, winning the Pro League with Union Saint-Gilloise in just his first season in management.
While he was unable to replicate the same success with Monaco in Ligue 1, his modern style of play remains sought after and the RBFA may be keen to explore his credentials.
It's worth noting that Pocognoli does have previous within the Belgium setup, overseeing a short stint as the U18s manager.
Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement was among the names discussed to succeed Tedesco in the latter months of 2024, but the RBFA opted against hiring the 52-year-old -- who was managing Rangers at the time.
Clement oversaw a remarkable turn of form at Championship outfit Norwich City following his appointment in November 2025, steering the club to a ninth placed finish, despite the Canaries sitting 23rd in England's second tier upon his arrival.
If last season is anything to go by, Norwich will be strong contenders for the Championship play-offs under the stewardship of Clement in the forthcoming 2026/27 campaign, but the Belgium national team job could prove difficult to turn down if it is offered to him.
Kasper Hjulmand
Unlike the rest of the potential candidates listed, Kasper Hjulmand has experience on the international stage after four years with Denmark between 2020 and 2024.
Hjulmand boasted an impressive 59.26% win ratio with Denmark -- the highest of any permanent manager in the nation's history -- and led them to to the semi-finals of the 2020 Euros.
He failed to have quite the same impact in 2025/26 with Bayer Leverkusen -- overseeing their joint-worst finish since 2016/17 -- but a return to international management, where he's statistically had the most success, could be enticing.
