Newcastle United are exploring a deal to sign left-back David Bartesaghi from AC Milan this summer.
Bartesaghi has recently made his senior debut for the Italian national team after receiving a call-up for the friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece earlier this month.
The international recognition followed a breakout season in Serie A where Bartesaghi featured 31 times for AC Milan.
The season would ultimately end in disappointment for the club as they missed out on UEFA Champions League football on the final day.
However, the emergence of Bartesaghi was one of the highlights of the club's season and they could now face a battle to keep hold of the 20-year-old.
Italian news outlet MilanPress have reported that Bartesaghi has been closely monitored by Newcastle.
There is yet to be a formal bid but initial talks have taken place with the player's representatives.
The Magpies are keeping their options open when it comes to reinforcements at left-back this summer, with Lewis Hall repeatedly linked with a move away from the club.
Hall was left out of England's World Cup squad this summer and a number of Premier League clubs have been mooted as potential destinations.
Bartesaghi appears to have a high ceiling and he could be a shrewd acquisition in the event that Hall moves on.
