Lionel Messi has made the most UEFA Champions League appearances for an Argentine player.
The 39-year-old has a storied history with the competition, lifting the trophy on four occasions and finishing as the top goalscorer no less than six times.
Messi made 163 appearances in club football's premier European competition, the majority coming for Barcelona where he spent the first 17 years of his professional career. With 129 goals to his name, Messi is also second to Cristiano Ronaldo in the all-time goal list.
Although Messi is a long way clear at the top, with 116 Champions League matches to his name, Angel Di Maria also had a very successful time of it in Europe. The winger plied his trade for Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain; he was named Man of the Match in the 2014 final between Real Madrid and Atleti.
Javier Zanetti comes in at fourth on the list off the back of his near two decade-long spell with Italian giants Inter. The 21-time Serie A champions retired Zanetti's shirt number after he hung up his boots and he won the competition as part of Jose Mourinho's famous 2010 treble-winning side.
There is also space for Nicolas Otamendi and Javier Mascherano in the top five, with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and Angel Correa coming in a bit lower down the list.
