Find out the five batters with the most runs in Ashes history as well as who has scored the most runs in an Ashes series.
Unsurprisingly, Don Bradman tops the list for the most runs in Ashes cricket. Despite his career being interrupted by World War Two, Bradman appeared in 37 Ashes Tests, recording an average of 89.78 with 19 centuries and a top score of 334.
Bradman cleared 5,000 Ashes runs in his career; to date, no one else has reached 4,000.
Another batter whose career was interrupted by global conflict, in this case, World War One, Jack Hobbs competed in 10 Ashes series and remains the highest-scoring English batter in Ashes cricket, more than 600 runs clear of his nearest rival, David Gower.
One of cricket's all-time greats, England will be all too glad to see the back of Steve Smith when he eventually calls time on his career.
It feels like when rather than if he moves past Jack Hobbs to trail only Don Bradman in Ashes runs, with his incredible 2019 series in England seeing him add 774 to his total.
Perhaps the personal highlight of Allan Border's legendary career was his 200 not out in the 1993 Ashes, 15 years removed from his Test debut by that point
With 19, Border still has the most Ashes half-centuries of any batter.
A key part of the Australia side that tormented England throughout the 1990s, Steve Waugh is one of only four men to score 10 or more Ashes centuries.
Don Bradman had just four Tests to his name by the time the 1930 Ashes series arrived, when he would make scores of 131, 254, 334 and 232 in what remains the highest-scoring Ashes series by any batter.
The finest performance of any English batter Down Under, Wally Hammond scored 905 runs in the 1928/29 series, the highlights being 251, 200, 119* and 177, the latter two coming in the same Test at Adelaide.
Heading to England with a total of just two Tests under his belt, Mark Taylor would leave a lasting mark on English bowlers in 1989. Never dismissed for less than 27, Taylor top-scored with 219 and reached 50 in seven of his 11 innings.
With England's Bodyline tactics now outlawed, Bradman was back with a bang in 1936. Perhaps all the more impressive about his 810 runs is that he amassed them while going for two ducks in the series.
Bradman recorded one century and two double centuries as Australia retained the urn.
Only six times has a batter played seven or more innings in an Ashes series an averaged over a hundred, and it's a feat Steve Smith has achieved twice, perhaps most memorably in 2019. Opening with a pair of centuries in the first Test, Smith was headhunted by Jofra Archer, eventually catching a ferocious bouncer to the neck, forcing him to retire.
Bravely trudging back out to continue his innings, Smith fell for 92. Forced to sit out the third Test as a result, Smith returned for the fourth Test with a 211 followed by 82.
