Superstar fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India's 15-man squad to face Afghanistan in three T20Is this month.
The 32-year-old, alongside four other members of the squad will need to receive fitness clearance from the BCCI's Centre Of Excellence before being allowed to take part in the series. Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana are all in the final stages of returning from injury.
Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel also return to the squad after being rested for India's most recent T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Bumrah is the headline inclusion among the 15-strong roster, having not featured for India since suffering a knee injury during the second ODI against England at Cardiff in June.
He was therefore ruled out of the third and final ODI at Lord's and was forced to miss India's two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August. The injury is a reoccurrence of a problem that he picked up during the T20 World Cup at the beginning of the year.
Only Arshdeep Singh has taken more T20I wickets for India than Bumrah; though the latter's average of 18.08 is significantly lower.
India are also set to be boosted by the return of Rana and Washington from hamstring issues that they picked up when touring England in the summer, as well as Reddy, who also suffered a muscle injury.
The first of their three matches against Afghanistan takes place on 13th September, with the following two games pencilled in for the 15th and 17th. Although all three matches take place in Delhi, it is Afghanistan who are the official hosts.
