Organisers of the Australian Open have launched a new tournament, the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which provides amateur tennis players with the opportunity to pit themselves against the very best in the sport.
The Million Dollar One Point Slam is scheduled to start prior to the Australian Open main draw on Monday 12th January and conclude with the 'grand finale' on Wednesday 14th January.
A qualifying draw is set to be held in December which amateurs, lower ranked professionals, celebrities and other sport stars are permitted to enter.
The Million Dollar One Point Slam will be held at Melbourne Park with the final staged at the Rod Laver Arena.
The Million Dollar One Point Slam will consist of five knockout rounds and the length of the matches is clued in the title - one point.
Players will play 'rock, paper, scissors' to determine who serves or receives, and whoever wins the point will progress to the next round.
A gender-inclusive event, the tournament will feature 22 professionals and 10 amateurs.
Australians or international players registered with Tennis Australia are able to enter and the winners of the grassroots tournaments will advance for the opportunity to face the professionals in the 'grand finale'.
Men's world number one Carlos Alcaraz has been confirmed for the event.
Australian Open organisers have suggested more big stars will be announced in due course.
The inaugural One Point Slam event, which took place at the start of 2025, featured Andrey Rublev.
Irrespective of whether you're an amateur or professional, the winner of the One Point Slam will take home A$1 million (£490,800) in prize money.
The figure is a substantial increase on the $60,000 (£29,448) awarded to the 2025 winner, Omar Jasika.
For context, the players who reached the semi-finals of the men's or women's singles main draw in the 2025 Australian Open won A$1.1m (£540,000).
