Ordinarily, Manchester City's Premier League relegation odds would be well into three figures.
It's now been 16 years since the Citizens ended a campaign outside of the top four with the club notching up eight title wins during that time.
So how can they be heading into the 2026/27 campaign priced at 12/1 to be plying their trade in the Championship in 12 months time?
Well, it certainly isn't a consequence of their disappointing showing at the Principality Stadium as they laboured to a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield.
Neither is it to do with the recent departures of Spanish boss Pep Guardiola and fellow countrymen Rodri and Bernardo Silva.
Yes, their absence will be felt at the Etihad Stadium this season, but the expectancy is that, despite that, the new guard will continue to ensure the club is challenging towards the upper echelons of the Premier League table.
It's off the field that the concerns of relegation continue to linger however, with Manchester City still awaiting to learn of their fate on the back of the 115 charges that were issued against them for reportedly breaching Premier League financial rules.
That case, of course, first came to light three years ago, with the Citizens strenuously denying any wrongdoing in the three years since.
The outcome of the case, which went to an independent commission in 2024, still hasn't been reached, meaning the club still faces a potential points deduction or even automatic relegation should they be sanctioned.
Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick has recently requested a speedy resolution to the process for the benefit of all 20 clubs in the top-flight, including City.
But Premier League supremo Richard Masters has since put pay to any hopes of a swift outcome to the case.
"I do accept it's taking longer than expected, and I understand that people want to find out as soon as possible what's going on, but I simply can't provide that," he said on the eve of the new season.
"Our rules are very clear - we have to follow the process, and there's only one real clear route through, which is to allow that process to reach its natural conclusion."
