The Los Angeles Rams have completed the blockbuster capture of two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett, who has established himself as one of the league's best defensive players since being drafted by Cleveland with the first pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, was traded for linebacker Jared Verse and three draft picks; a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.
The 30-year-old star edge rusher has consistently reiterated his desire to play for a team with a realistic chance of winning a championship. After Cleveland posted a 3-14 record in 2024, Garrett requested a trade from the Browns in 2024 before he was convinced to stay in Ohio with a four-year, $160m extension.
Cleveland promised improvement, but a 5-12 record in the 2025 season saw them miss out on the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons.
Since being drafted nine years ago, Garrett has the most sacks (125.5), pressures (413) and tackles for loss (149) of any player. In the previous campaign, he set the single-season sacks record with 23.
On the decision to trade Garrett to the Rams, Cleveland's general manager Andrew Berry believes the decision to relinquish a "generational player" should benefit the franchise in the long-term.
"When the Rams first approached us with the possibility of trading Myles, we remained convicted in our position," Berry said.
"But as discussions intensified we were stuck at a legitimate crossroads. Hold on to a truly generational player who has become the identity of our team, or do we make the difficult decision that we think is best for the organisation over the long run?
"In that framework, the decision became clear, although our emotions were muddled. As we embark on a new era of Browns football with a young core and a replenished asset base, we felt this move was important to our transition."
Sean McVay's Rams will be bidding to make a home Super Bowl appearance next year as the NFL's showpiece takes place at the SoFi Stadium next February.
The Rams were beaten by the eventual champions Seattle Seahawks 31-27 in last season’s NFC championship game.

12 years on from his selection in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Odell Beckham Jr is back at the New York Giants.
The veteran receiver became a household name with the Giants and he returned to his former franchise in April for a workout before signing a one-year deal.
Beckham Jr hasn't played since 2024 after he was released by the Miami Dolphins and served a six-game suspension for a failed drugs test.
The 33-year-old, who made 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns in 59 games for the Giants before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019, was part of the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl-winning team in 2022.
Showing glimpses of his best form with his Rams, Beckham Jr tore his knee ligaments during the Super Bowl and has failed to recpature those heights since.
Returning to his "home team", Beckham Jr will be eager to prove he can still be a weapon in this league as he bolsters their receiving department.
