Which players were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft?

The first round of the 2026 NFL Draft has been completed and to the surprise of nobody, quarterback Fernando Mendoza was selected with the first overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mendoza had dominated the build-up to the Draft after he led Indiana to their first national championship and was named Heisman Trophy winner.

The Raiders desperately wanted a franchise quarterback to spear a new era and Mendoza got the approval of seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who is a minority owner of the Las Vegas team.

Four of Ohio State's stars were selected in the first round of the Draft, including three in the top 10 while safety Caleb Downs was picked up by Dallas Cowboys with the 11th pick.

Wide receiver Carnell Tate was picked fourth by the Tennessee Titans ahead of pass rusher Arvell Reese, while linebacker Sonny Styles was added to the defensive ranks of the Washington Commanders.

Reese was one of two New York Giants picks in the top 10 as they opted to strengthen on both sides of the ball with the selection of right tackle Francis Mauigoa.

New York Jets picked up Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey with the second selection of the Draft, while there was great intrigue around the final destination of running back Jeremiyah Love, who was signed by the Arizona Cardinals with the third pick.

Making inroads on their rebuild after failing to make the playoffs last season, the Kansas City Chiefs traded up from the ninth pick to sixth to acquire cornerback Mansoor Delane.

The New Orleans Saints bolstered their receiving ranks with the capture of Jordan Tyson at eight, while Spencer Fano was one of two first round picks by the Cleveland Browns as Todd Monken looks to strengthen his protection to whichever quarterback he starts in 2026.

Arguably the most intriguing selection of the first round was the decision of the Los Angeles Rams to draft Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick. There was surprise Simpson went so early, with the Rams starting to put succession preparations in place for Matthew Stafford.
