Jake Paul reveals shock career change plan after Anthony Joshua KO

Jake Paul has sensationally revealed plans to play American football in college in a bid to try earn an NFL contract.

The social media star turned boxer took on former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a highly-publicised bout streamed live on Netflix in December.

Ultimately Paul suffered the first stoppage loss of his burgeoning career at the hands of AJ, with Joshua landing a devastating right hand in the sixth round to send him crashing to the canvas.

The punch broke Paul's jaw in two places and has left the future of his boxing career in doubt.

With his in-ring plans scuppered, the ever-ambitious Paul has revealed his new plan is to fulfill a childhood dream of playing American football professionally.

The 28-year-old told the a16z podcast that he is planning on enrolling at Stanford College in California in a bid to represent the school in Division 1 collegiate football.

"I wanna play on the Stanford football team actually," said Paul. "I’m being serious!"

"I think it could be funny or interesting, but I think it would lend itself, I do have NFL aspirations after boxing.

"I want to play slot receiver and so I think to get that experience in college first would be good so I could walk on to the Stanford team. I’m being serious though.

"The idea of it happened today because I was originally thinking I’ll just go straight to the Cleveland Browns or Dallas Cowboys, but they’re probably going to want to see me play first.

"And so, it might be better if I start off in college and have a little bit of an advantage over the younger, not as big kids before going into the NFL."

Prior to achieving viral fame on the now-defunct video sharing app Vine, Paul played high school football in his native Ohio.
