Leicester City set sights on Championship target man to bolster attack

Leicester City have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Scotland international Lyndon Dykes as preparations begin for the League One season.

The Foxes are set to undergo a major squad rebuild this summer following their Championship relegation, although the club remain no closer to identifying a new manager for the forthcoming season.

Jake Evans is currently the only recognised striker on Leicester's books following the departures of Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew upon the expiry of their contracts and Dykes is a name that's cropped up as they look to bolster their forward options.

According to talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs, Leicester have made contact with the free agent striker, who is currently assessing his options after being offered a contract extension by Charlton Athletic.

Dykes spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan with the Addicks after Birmingham City sanctioned his exit in January.

The 30-year-old target man is currently preparing to fly out to the United States as he features in Steve Clarke's 26-man Scotland squad for the 2026 World Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Dykes will make a decision before Scotland's World Cup commences on 14th June against Haiti or whether he will bide his time on his next career move with Millwall also rumoured to be keen.

Dykes scored 35 goals in 156 Championship appearances for Queens Park Rangers in a four-year spell from 2020 before joining Birmingham's quest for promotion from League One in 2024.

The former Queen of the South and Livingston striker was subjected to a bit-part role under Chris Davies as the Blues achieved a Football League record 111 points, but Dykes did contribute vital goals in cup competitions, including the winner against Bradford City to send Birmingham to the EFL Trophy final.

Remaining at St Andrew's on the club's return to the Championship, Dykes slipped further down the pecking order following the signings of Marvin Ducksch and Kyogo Furuhashi. Despite scoring winning goals against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City, e made just two starts before signing for Jones' Addicks in January, where he enjoyed a far greater impact.

Dykes chalked up three goals and three assists as Charlton comfortably avoided relegation, and Jones is eager to keep Dykes on his books for next season.

It's understood any Leicester move for Dykes will not be sanctioned until a new manager has been confirmed.

Gary Rowett presided over the final 14 matches of Leicester's season but won only two matches as the Foxes ended in 23rd, five points adrift of safety. The club have yet to communicate whether the former Millwall boss will be extending his stay at the King Power Stadium.
