Leeds United v Manchester United tips from the Football Betting Club

Struggling Manchester United travel to West Yorkshire for a mouth-watering clash with rivals Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.

One of the fiercest rivalries in English football is renewed as Leeds bid for their first win at Elland Road against their arch-rivals for the first time since 2002.

While Daniel Farke's men were well placed to beat an injury-hit Red Devils last season, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw, but are being sent off favourites once again.

Michael Carrick's side are now without a win in five in all competitions, twice failing to beat sides reduced to 10 men, while the early signs from Leeds so far this terms have been positive that a European finish is within reach.

Nevertheless, the Football Betting Club's Mark Stinchcombe believes he's found a way to get onside with the visitors.

Leeds United v Manchester United Prediction & Tips

Best Bet: Over 13.5 Manchester United shots @ 8/11

"Now five games without a win for United, with just two wins in nine all season.

"Michael Carrick is now 6/4 to still be in charge on New Year’s Day with bet365, essentially saying 8/13 that he will be gone by that point. We’ll have to wait and see.

"Obviously another tough game at Elland Road, but I think that is already factored into the prices. Leeds are favourites at 7/5, United are 13/8. In this fixture last season, which took place in January, United were slight favourites, so you can already see a slight change in price.

"But I think that is probably more down to Leeds’ improvement. We know that last season, when Daniel Farke switched from a back four to a back five around November, there was a massive uptick in Leeds’ form. I think the pricing is more about Leeds than United. United have not really drifted since their defeat away to Atlético Madrid in midweek.

"You could make a case for saying that Leeds are perhaps a bit big in the market, but I think it is always dangerous to back these sorts of teams as favourites. Brentford, for example, are favourites at home to Liverpool this weekend, and I would always be wary of backing teams like that as favourites. I would much rather back them as underdogs.

"The angle I’m looking at here is a bit of a rinse and repeat. I backed a similar price to when United were 1/3 away at Hull City on the opening day of the season, and that's to get United onside via the shots market.

"United have had the most shots in the league this season, averaging 20.8 per game, which rises slightly to 21.3 away from home. Leeds have conceded the seventh-most shots this season, at 13.7 per game.

"James Trafford has been doing a lot of work in goal for Leeds. I think he has made the most saves in the Premier League so far this season. However, this is nothing new for United; they averaged the most shots in the league last season, with 15.7.

"Leeds conceded a similar amount last season, at 12.6. At Old Trafford in April, it was Carrick against Farke, United registered 20 shots. At Elland Road, when it was Ruben Amorim against Farke, United had 15 shots. The line here is 13.5, which I think is very attackabl.

"So, I’m backing over 13.5 Manchester United shots at 8/11."

Key Match Stats

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last seven trips to Elland Road
