LASK Linz 5-1 Celtic (5-4 agg): Match Stats & Timeline

Celtic suffered one of the worst nights in their European history as they surrendered a four-goal aggregate lead against LASK Linz to crash out of the UEFA Champions League.

Following a resounding 3-0 victory in Glasgow last week, Celtic's progression seemed a foregone conclusion when Callum McGregor opened the scoring at the Raiffeisen Arena to extend their aggregate advantage.

But LASK were handed a lifeline courtesy of Benjamin Nygren's careless pass which gifted Moses Usor a one-on-one opportunity and the striker made no mistake to draw the hosts level in the second leg.

Dietmar Kühbauer's side then ramped up the pressure and they were rewarded when Robert Ljubicic found the back of the net with just three minutes on the clock in the second half.

An anxious Celtic continued to invite pressure and their lead was trimmed again 10 minutes later as Samuel Adeniran bent a sensational strike from 25 yards.

Martin O'Neil's side struggled to get a foothold in the game and Viljami Sinisalo's goal was subjected to a barrage of shots from the Austrian champions, who repeatedly knocked on the door but to no avail.

It looked as though the Bhoys were going to scrape progression by the skin of their teeth, but their resolve was finally broken in the 90th minute when substitute Florian Flecker reacted to a Sinisalo save to prod LASK level and force extra time.

Regrouping during the interval, Celtic were more assured as LASK's attacking intensity deteriorated, but Adeniran struck the killer blow in second half extra time.

Luke McCowan was dispossessed and the American forward stroked the ball home into the bottom corner.
