For many players, being named the top scorer of one of Europe's top five leagues ranks among the highest honours of their careers.
Football is littered with players that have managed to maintain a purple patch throughout a season and upset the odds by remaining top of the scoring charts when the campaign comes to an end.
To sustain that form in front of goal over the course of several years is a different matter entirely.
To remain among the top goalscorers when the parameters are extended to an entire decade is a testament to not only skill, but a level of consistency that is the mark of a top player.
As such, it is perhaps not surprising that Lionel Messi tops the list of La Liga's record goalscorers over the last 10 seasons.
That achievement is made all the more impressive by the fact that the Argentine hasn't played in the Spanish top flight since May 2021, meaning his goal tally comes from just five seasons.
Between 2016/17 and 2020/21 - his final season with Barcelona - Messi netted 162 goals from 172 appearances, more than any other player in La Liga over the last decade.
Second on the list is veteran striker Iago Aspas.
The Celta Vigo legend scored 142 league goals during the ten-season period, but played nearly double the amount of games as Messi.
