Jannik Sinner has continued his impressive recent form to beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final and replace the Spaniard as world number one.
As expected in a final featuring the two best male tennis players in the world, it was a contest full of superb rallies and explosive winners from start to finish.
The crucial stage of the match came in the first set tiebreak when Alcaraz surprisingly double faulted at set point down to hand Sinner the advantage.
Sinner actually found himself 3-1 down in the second set, but some terrific tennis saw the 24-year-old win five games in a row to claim a first Monte Carlo Masters title.
The Italian has bounced back admirably from a shock defeat to 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semi-finals and today's victory has made it an astonishing three Masters 1000 titles in a row.
In a run that has seen the Wimbledon champion reign supreme at Indian Wells, the Miami Open and now in Monte-Carlo, he has incredibly won 46 out of 47 sets and won 22 consecutive matches.
It will be fascinating to see how significant this victory is when attention turns to the French Open next month.
Defending champion Alcaraz is the narrow 6/5 favourite to win the second Grand Slam of the year, with Sinner just behind at 6/4.
