Luke Campbell has offered to come out of retirement to face Conor Benn in the wake of his defeat by Ryan Garcia.
After making a high-profile switch to Zuffa Boxing earlier this year, Benn looked to emulate his legendary father Nigel as he travelled to the US to fight for a world title.
Ultimately though it wasn't to be for the 29-year-old.
When the pair met inside the ring Garcia wasted little time establishing his dominance, dropping Benn before forcing the referee to stop the fight less than 90 seconds into round two.
Following the second defeat of his career Benn thanked his fans for their support and revealed he would take a break from boxing to spend time with family.
When he decides to return to action Benn could have a domestic showdown laying in wait with the former world title challenger Campbell.
"That's probably the one fight that would excite me to get the gloves back on," Campbell told Seconds Out when asked about a potential showdown with Benn.
"If there's ever something there or they want to look into it the doors open to look into that.
Speaking on Benn's defeat on Saturday night Campbell - who won gold for Team GB in the bantamweight division at London 2012 - insisted his compatriot does not have the skills to be competitive with the elite.
"I don't mean to disrespect anyone but he's not good enough to outsmart world class fighters." He added.
"Look at Garcia, he's got some of the best timing, speed and power. You can't just walk into someone without having that defence and a little bit of head movement because you're just going to get brought onto a shot and unfortunately that's what happened."
Campbell fought Garcia in 2021 and produced an impressive performance in defeat against the burgeoning talent, dropping him in round two before being finished in the seventh.
He announced his retirement from boxing after the fight, bowing out with a professional record of 20 wins and four losses, and has since moved into politics.
In 2025 he was elected as the inaugural strategic authority mayor for Hull and East Yorkshire.
