Kimi Antonelli stands on the brink of history following a breathtaking 2026 season.
The precocious Italian is on the verge of becoming Formula 1's youngest world champion and can achieve the extraordinary feat at this weekend's United States Grand Prix.
A beacon of consistency with eight wins and 14 podiums from 17 races, Antonelli holds a 102-point lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell in second with six rounds remaining.
Lewis Hamilton mathematically remains in the title equation, but the Ferrari star is a further nine points back from Russell and at this stage it's a matter of when, not if Antonelli is crowned champion.
"I know it's very close, I know it's there, but I just need to make sure that I keep doing the best I can," Antonelli said.
"You know, the mindset is always the same, to go out there and win and perform the best way I can. I think this weekend [in Singapore] I haven't particularly driven that well. I felt like I could have done a better job, but I feel confident that, you know, a week to reset and I'm really looking forward to being back in Austin.
"But, at the end of the day, if I don't do my job well, then the result won't come. So in order to achieve what I want, I need to perform, as simple as that."
To win the title at the Circuit of the Americas, Antonelli needs to increase his championship lead by 23 points.
A 125-point lead over Russell upon conclusion of the United States Grand Prix will be enough to hand Antonelli the title, despite there being a maximum of 125 points up for grabs.
That's because race wins are the first tiebreaker in event of an end-of-season points tie. Antonelli's tally of nine race victories would be insurmountable with Russell only able to achieve a maximum of eight race wins with five rounds remaining.
If Antonelli wins but Russell finishes eighth or higher, or Hamilton finishes fourth or higher, then the Italian's coronation will wait until the Mexican Grand Prix a week later.
At present, the likes of Max Verstappen (119 points back), Charles Leclerc (125 points back) and Lando Norris (139 points back) all possess a mathematical chance of winning the title, but an Antonelli win in Austin automatically banishes their title chances irrespective of where they finish.
