Ralph Beckett's Centigrade defied a 601-day absence when winning a novice event under a penalty at Southwell in June and improved on that when sixth in a hugely competitive handicap at York last month.
The sizeable Too Darn Hot colt, who had been short-headed by subsequent Group 3/Group 2 winner Jonquil over 7f here on his debut in August 2024, won by an impressive five-and-a-half lengths at Newbury on his only other start at two and looked every inch a Pattern-Class performer when making light of a 10st 7lb on his belated reappearance.
He was unable to justify strong market support on his handicap debut off a mark of 102 on the Knavesmire, but ran to a Racing Post Rating matching that figure and was keeping on steadily at the finish, despite having raced keenly in rear early on.
This additional furlong on a stiffer track should suit and, although he has got a bit to find on the book, should by no means be underestimated. His yard won this in 2024 with Skellet.

Brian Ellison's Floral Maid came home like a train when narrowly beaten on her debut over course-and-distance last month and could take some stopping with that experience behind her.
The daughter of Calyx is bred to appreciate significantly further and that stamina was evident inside the final furlong on her introduction as she gained rapidly on the gambled-on Pivotal Voyage near the finish to be beaten just a neck.
She encouragingly pulled three lengths clear of the third-placed Cheeky Chesca, who has since won a Catterick nursery off a mark of 60, and would not need to improve much on that form to beat the 68-rated Mubehir.

William Haggas has an excellent record with his runners at Yarmouth and he takes another strong team to the Norfolk coast on Wednesday, the best of them arguably Masked Warrior, who ran far better than his latest fourth of five at Ripon suggests.
The selection has performed to a good level since having cheekpieces applied this season, recording a career-high Racing Post Rating of 91 when winning a Kempton novice in May, 90 when third on his handicap debut at Chester in June and 88 at Ripon the following month.
He went like the winner for much of the way last time, swamped inside the final 100yds and paying the price for refusing to settle in the early exchanges.
He has yet to race over this far, but he's closely related to 1m4f/2m Group 3 winner Namibian, and could well be up to exploiting his official mark of 88. His yard won this corresponding race last season with Sea Force.
