Kentucky Downs hosts a high-quality card on Saturday night with multiple Graded races to enjoy and Racing Post handicapper and tipster Jonny Pearson is on hand to run you through his best bets.
The Nashville Derby Invitational Stakes is the feature on the card and there is plenty of British and Irish interest in that race with Hugo Palmer, Aidan O'Brien and Joseph O’Brien all saddling runners.
Earlier on the card, Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Ethical Diamond is back in the US for the Kentucky Turf Cup Invitational Stakes.
21:56 Kentucky Downs - Ethical Diamond @ 9/4
22:36 Kentucky Downs - Glacius @ 11/4
23:11 Kentucky Downs - Classic Q @ SP
21:56 Kentucky Downs - Ethical Diamond @ 9/4
Our first selection is in the Kentucky Turf Cup Invitational Stakes and it is the above-mentioned Ethical Diamond, who was something of a surprise winner at the Breeders’ Cup, but there was no fluke about the performance.
He was a little disappointing at Royal Ascot, but returned to winning ways at Leopardstown last time and can take another step forward back on US soil.
The style of racing in the US suits Ethical Diamond, as there is typically a strong early pace, and it lends itself to him being strong at the finish. He has the best form on offer from all the runners and should take all the beating.
Ole Crazy Bone won the race 12 months ago and should run well again, while Burnham Square comes to Kentucky on a run of four wins on the spin. That pair will likely pose the biggest threat to Ethical Diamond and can fill the places.
22:36 Kentucky Downs - Glacius @ 11/4
The Nashville Derby Invitational Stakes is the feature and following an impressive Grade 1 win at Saratoga last month Glacius can win another big pot.
Having been held up in his runs in the UK earlier this year, a change of tactics saw Glacius ridden to best effect at Saratoga and that effort is arguably the best form on offer.
Provided he breaks well and gets in a good position towards the head of affairs, he will once again be very difficult to pass.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Causeway is perhaps the biggest threat, but following a disappointing effort at Longchamp last time, he needs to return to form and to improve on his Royal Ascot win to threaten.
23:11 Kentucky Downs - Classic Q @ SP
Our final selection is Classic Q in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes and she simply should be too good for the rest of the field.
It isn’t the strongest group of fillies and mares and following two wins Classic Q has the best form on offer.
Princesa Moche might give her the most to think about, but she hasn’t won in her last five starts and this is a tougher test than what she has been facing in those runs.
Provided Classic Q is on song she will win this and Princesa Moche can finish in second place.
