Haydock Horse Racing Betting Tips for Saturday 23rd May

There could be plenty of Royal Ascot clues on offer at Haydock on Saturday, as the Sandy Lane and Temple Stakes serve as trials for next month’s Commonwealth Cup and King Charles III Stakes.

Racing Post tipster, Harry Wilson, has provided his three best bets for the action at Haydock, including a potential improver in one of the feature sprints.

Saturday's Haydock Horse Racing Betting Tips

14:20 Haydock - Langstone @ 7/1
15:30 Haydock - Getreadytorumble @ 8/1
16:05 Haydock - Blazeon Five @ 9/1

14:20 Haydock - Langstone @ 7/1

Princling was one of my fancies for the London Gold Cup at Newbury last week and it’s no real surprise to see him top the market for the Silver Bowl.

The Kingman colt finished second on both runs as a two-year-old, and time has told that he was unlucky to bump into a couple of smart rivals. He went down by just a nose to the now 90-rated Fort Rock on his debut in October before splitting Yazin (now rated 104) and Richie's Rocket (96) at Newmarket 18 days later.

There is every chance that an opening mark of 87 may underestimate his ability, but I thought he’d find extra improvement for tackling a mile and a quarter, so I’m willing to take him on at a mile with Langstone.

The strapping son of Mayson was always likely to better anything he achieved at two as a three-year-old and he has gone from strength to strength, recording back-to-back wins in 7f novices at Doncaster and Kempton.

Langstone won in spite of adversity on both occasions, too. He was strong at the finish amid obvious greenness to repel an 85-rated rival at Doncaster on his reappearance and defied a penalty with a fair bit in hand at Kempton last time, despite having his challenge delayed as he was carried to his left in the straight.

Clive Cox has won this two times from just three runners in the last seven years, both of whom had similar profiles to Langstone, and it’s likely this has been the target for some time.

Langstone could be a lot better than an opening mark of 87, especially with more to come now tackling a mile for the first time.

15:30 Haydock - Getreadytorumble @ 9/1

Night Raider proved just how open the sprinting division is when landing his first win on turf in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on 2,000 Guineas day.

He may have just turned a corner since being gelded, but the chances are that Haydock's Temple Stakes will be going elsewhere, especially as all his best form has come on fast ground.

With Asfoora carrying a penalty and others arriving with a bit to prove, it looks worth siding with Getreadytorumble, who made his debut only this time last year but has quickly progressed into a useful sprinter.

The son of Rumble Inthejungle won three of his seven starts on turf (never finishing out of the first three) last season and rose from a rating of 82 to 101, with his campaign culminating in a strong-finishing third behind Shagraan in a Listed contest at Ascot in October.

Getreadytorumble shaped incredibly well on his return in the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Naas last month, finishing well for third having been repeatedly denied a clear run.

That was probably a career best and the winner, Mission Central, showed the strength of that form when defying a penalty back there in a Listed race on Sunday.

There is loads of pace in the contest, which should suit Getreadytorumble well, and this lightly-raced sort could improve past plenty of these.

16:05 Haydock - Blazeon Five @ 8/1

Alan King seemingly found the key to Blazeon Five at the back end of last year, as she won three in a row between October and December before being given far too much to do when only sixth in a 2m½f handicap at Newcastle in January.

The third, fifth (twice) and ninth from her Southwell win have all scored since, while the second, third and 10th from that Newcastle race have also gone in subsequently (the fourth and fifth have finished second as well), so a mark just 3lb above her last winning one shouldn't be beyond her.

Blazeon Five looked like she needed the run on her return at Newbury last month, when she travelled well before fading late on, and she is well suited by a bit of cut in the ground. Everything looks in place for a big run.
