Epsom stages the first day of its Derby meeting on Friday and there is plenty on enjoy on a high-quality card including a Classic of its own in the shape of The Oaks.
Phill Anderson from the Racing Post supplies us with his best bets from across the Epsom card, with a top-quality support programme including the 3yo Dash Handicap.
15:15 Epsom - Spoken Truth @ 12/1
16:00 Epsom - K Sarra @ 16/1
17:50 Epsom - Rhoscolyn @ 4/1
15:15 Epsom - Spoken Truth @ 12/1
Spoken Truth has left the impression that he's retained all of his ability in a trio of starts for David O'Meara after leaving Dermot Weld in the off-season.
He returned with an eye-catching fourth at Doncaster when beaten a never-nearer two lengths and came on from that when only narrowly denied at Ripon.
He was notably well-backed for that Ripon second, losing out by a head to Spioradalta and that rival did the form a favour when winning again at the same course last week.
Our selection then didn't get much luck in running when finishing runner-up again at Redcar last week, an effort worth marking up and, while he's gone up a total of 5lb for his last two runs, a return to slower ground could be a source of improvement having won his maiden on soft.
There could easily be more to come for his new connections, who can often improve the horses they pick up from other yards and, with bet365 offering a standout 12/1 as well as paying an extra place on the race, he makes plenty of appeal each-way.
16:00 Epsom - K Sarra @ 16/1
There were signs the penny was starting to drop for K Sarra in last month's Musidora and both a step up in trip and slower ground has the potential to yield further improvement from this filly in the showpiece Oaks.
She looked like a smart prospect when winning an all-weather novice at Southwell on her debut and bounced back from a low-key run at Newbury over an insufficient trip with a never-nearer third on York's Knavesmire last time out.
She shaped like she was crying out for a longer distance in that contest and her pedigree suggests as much given that both her sire and dam produced their best at further than 1m 4f.
There's also hope that the slower surface will suit, with New Bay (sire) progeny often at their best with plenty of cut in the ground and her dam's only turf success came on soft.
There's surely more to come from this well-bred sister to Pride Of Arras (2025 Dante winner that produced his career best in the Great Voltigeur over this trip) and the yard have enjoyed their fair share of success in the Oaks with two previous winners this century.
With plenty of pace on, she looks likely to get a strong gallop to aim at this time and seems overpriced from an each-way perspective at 16/1 with bet365.
17:50 Epsom - Rhoscolyn @ 4/1
The case for Rhoscolyn is a fairly straightforward one.
The eight-year-old is two from three over this course and distance, including a success in this race in 2024 and he was only beaten roughly one length in the contest last season.
He showed he was still capable of smart form when winning the Golden Mile at Goodwood last season and he's now 3lb lower than that winning handicap mark.
Slow ground is the key with this horse and, provided there's still enough juice in the ground by the end of the card, he looks like the one to beat.
