The Ladies Professional Golf Association organises the LPGA Tour, which represents the highest standard of competition for female golfers.
Founded in 1950, there are now upwards of 30 events a year and while most are played in the USA, 11 tournaments are held elsewhere.
Below we look at the five most successful golfers in the history of the LPGA TOUR.
Winning span: 1962-1985
Despite a relatively modest six major wins, Kathy Whitworth is, and may forever remain, the leading golfer in terms of LPGA Tour wins with 88.
Winning span: 1956-1973
Joining the LPGA Tour five years after its inception, Mickey Wright won her first event the following year and her haul of 13 majors remains second in female golf history.
Winning span: 1995-2008
The greatest female golfer of the modern era, Sweden's Annika Sorenstam won 72 times on the LPGA Tour in addition to her 10 majors, bettered by only three golfers in history.
So strong was she amongst her peers that Sorenstam was invited to play a PGA Tour event, making her the first female to do so since 1945.
Winning span: 1946-1962
With a winning span that predates the LPGA Tour, Louise Suggs was actually one of the tour's founding members, with her major haul of 11 bettered by only Mickey Wright and Patty Berg
Winning span: 1937-1962
Another golfer whose winning span predates the LPGA Tour, Patty Berg helped establish the Women's Professional Golf Association, the precursor to the LPGA.
Her 15 major wins remains a record to this day.
