The 2027 Formula 1 season will mark the 78th running of the prestigious motor racing championship and there will be more sprint races than ever before, increasing from six to 10.
Sprint events will be held for the first time in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Abu Dhabi and, somewhat controversially, Monaco. Sprint races were introduced at circuits where overtaking opportunities are abundant, and Monaco is a significant shift from the previous selection process as the streets of Monte Carlo are notoriously difficult to overtake on.
The aforementioned five accompany the existing quintet of Canada, Britain, Italy, Brazil, and Qatar on the sprint calendar.
The 2027 season is scheduled to begin on the weekend of Friday 12th March to Sunday 14th March with the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is followed by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix a week later. However, both events remain in doubt amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
There are two new races for the 2027 season as the Portuguese Grand Prix returns in place of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix in June, while the Turkish Grand Prix is also back on the calendar at the expense of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the president of F1's governing body the FIA, said: "The 2027 FIA F1 World Championship calendar is a strong reflection of the global appeal and continued growth of our sport.
"With 24 grands prix across five continents, the return of Portugal and Turkey, and the opportunity for an expanded sprint programme, the calendar combines tradition, innovation and fan engagement while maintaining the highest sporting standards."
