Former Arsenal and Nottingham Forest director Edu has found a new role in football, just one week after ending a disastrous spell at the City Ground.
The former Brazilian international played a leading role in Arsenal's resurgence in the transfer market in recent years; the 48-year-old spent five years at the Emirates, first as a technical director, before spending two years as the Gunners' sporting director.
Edu later joined Forest as a part of Evangelos Marinakis' multi-club ownership group, overseeing operations at the City Ground, alongside work with Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.
Whilst his exit from Nottingham Forest wasn't unexpected, Edu's announcement as a new board member at Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia comes as something of a surprise.
Edu enjoyed success during his time with Arsenal; however, his spell with Forest was short-lived and controversial to say the least.
He joined the Tricky Trees in July 2025, but it was reported that within eight months his position had become untenable. The Brazilian was reportedly told to stay away from the club's training facilities and has not been seen at the City Ground since.
The Athletic reported one week ago that Edu's contract had been terminated by the club, and the 48-year-old appears to have moved on swiftly, with the surprise announcement by Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia.
The club, who dethroned 14-time champions Ludogorets last season to claim the title, today announced a shake up at boardroom level, replacing the previously two-tier model with a five-person board of directors.
Announcing the former Arsenal midfielder on their website, Levski Sofia said:
"Edu Gaspar is a football executive with extensive experience, combining an elite competitive career with senior management positions in some of the leading football organizations in the world.
"As a member of the Board of PFC Levski AD, Edu will contribute with world-class knowledge, an international view of the game and a wide network of contacts in global football. His experience in sporting strategy, selection, talent development and organisational building will be an important asset for the club on the way to a sustainable and competitive football structure."
Forest meanwhile are not believed to be seeking a replacement for Edu; it is believed the Brazilian played no part in the hiring of Oliver Glasner this summer or held any role in any dealings during the transfer window.
