Uruguay are expected to be Spain's biggest challengers in Group H, but pressure is on Marcelo Bielsa's side after a four-game winless run.
Monday’s opponents Saudi Arabia failed to make it past the group stage four years ago, despite beating eventual winners Argentina in their opening game of the World Cup.
The Saudis are paired with the tournament favourites this time around, but it's their clashes with Uruguay and Cape Verde that will be key to their prospects of making it past the group stage for the first time since the last tournament in the USA in 1994.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5
Uruguay’s days as tournament dark horses appear to be over, with their star-studded forward line now a thing of the past.
Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is set to lead the line for La Celeste at this tournament, but his poor form comes at a time when the two-time champions are struggling to win matches.
Uruguay have failed to win in four, drawing three of those matches. They made it to the tournament by drawing as many games as they won in qualifying (7), while they conceded only 12 times in 18 matches.
While Uruguay have a solid foundation, their lack of flair in the final third could be an issue in their opener.
Saudi Arabia conceded only 10 times across their final 12 games in qualifying, and they head into the tournament after a 0-0 draw with Senegal.
Like Uruguay, goals have been hard to come by for Saudi Arabia, so under 2.5 goals is well-priced in a game which neither side can really afford to lose.
Alternative Bet: Draw @ 16/5
Uruguay’s 1-1 draw with England at Wembley wasn’t the worst result, but it added to a string of draws under Bielsa's watch.
They've won only five of their last 21 internationals, and their lack of warm up matches ahead of the tournament feels like a big risk for a side that could have used a morale-boosting victory ahead of their tournament opener.
Draws almost cost Saudi Arabia a place at the tournament. They drew four of 10 matches in the third round of qualifying in Asia, leaving them behind Japan and Australia.
They secured progression to the tournament in the fourth and final round of qualifying thanks to a 0-0 home draw with Iraq.
The Green One aren’t backed to achieve much at this tournament, but they are capable of frustrating this Uruguay side. The draw stands out at 10/3 here, while a goalless draw also holds plenty of appeal at 17/2.
Saud Abdulhamid to be booked
Manuel Ugarte to be booked
Pays 10/1
While goals could be hard to come by in Miami, it's easy to see these two sides sharing a few cards.
Saud Abdulhamid stands out for the Green Falcons after he picked up four cautions for Lens in Ligue 1 last season.
He also had four bookings in qualifying ahead of this tournament and he was yellow-carded during the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
For Uruguay, Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte led a physical side in fouls committed during qualifying with 25, while he was booked on four occasions on his way to the tournament.
Ugarte saw his game time limited for United and, with no warm-up fixtures, the midfielder could be a little rusty in their opening match.
He was cautioned 11 times for United in 2024/25 and a booking for both Ugarte and Abdulhamid stands out as a 10/1 double.
