Wrexham secured promotion to the Championship with a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on Saturday, becoming the first team in the English football leagues to earn three consecutive promotions.
Phil Parkinson was hired as the manager of National League side Wrexham in July 2021.
Four years later and the Red Dragons have earned promotion to the second tier of English football, with American stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at the forefront of the club’s success.
A box office story that has alerted the interest of football watchers worldwide, Wrexham owners Reynolds and McElhenney are seemingly in no mood to stop the story there, and why would they?
A return to the Football League after a 15-year absence in 2023 was considered remarkable, let alone a return to the Championship which sees them a promotion away from Premier League football.
Following the club’s 3-0 victory over Charlton, Reynolds spoke to Sky Sports.
"You can look at so many beating hearts of the club but it all goes back to Phil (Parkinson). I mean the leadership in that locker room and the faith that the club has in Phil, and the community, that speaks volumes.
We were standing there doing a press conference four or five years ago and this man (Parkinson) said our goal is to make it to the Premier League.
"There was understandably a lot of laughter and giggles but it starts to feel like a real tangible thing that could actually come to fruition in this moment.
Rob McElhenney added: "In Phil we trust!"
While a substantial percentage of the club’s success can be attributed to the American pair, they remained modest in victory.
McElhenney said: “Truth of the matter is, Ryan and I have the easiest jobs in the world which is to show up and watch this incredible football team and this incredible story to continue and unfold.”
