The Football Betting Club assess a fascinating top goalscorer market for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign.
Kylian Mbappe landed the odds after scoring a 15 goals last season, narrowly edging out Harry Kane who finished one shy with 14. Both are expected to challenge again, and when you throw Erling Haaland into the mix, it all of a sudden looks like a wide-open affair.
Kane -- fresh off the back of his best goalscoring season to date -- is European football expert Ian Broadrick's idea of a bet at 7/1.
"If you look at Harry Kane, at 7/1, and you're getting 1/4 1-2-3-4, it's incredibly hard to see him [finishing] outside of the top four," Broadrick explained.
"He scored 14 goals in 13 matches last season, and if you look at the matches that Bayern have drawn in the League Phase, they've got some really attractive games when it comes to scoring goal numbers.
"They've got Arsenal at home, which is a positive, Atletico Madrid away, where gone are the days that [Diego] Simeone sets up his sides to hold a lead, you know, they're very open these days and have been for a few years.
"They've got Real Betis at home, Manchester United away, Bodo/Glimt at home - fundamentally they've got a list of fixtures that suggests that they could score a lot of goals in the League Phase. I think the fact that [Michael] Olise and Kane were rested against Schalke at the weekend is a positive.
"If they do score a lot of goals in the League Phase, then you could easily envisage a scenario where Kane has double-digit goals even before you get to the knockouts."
bet365's Steve Freeth was keen to place emphasis on players with penalty-taking duties when seeking out the top goalscorer winner: "Key, as it always is with top goalscorers, is penalty takers. So, Mbappe had 11 goals [in the League Phase] three of them penalties, Kane had eight before the knockouts, with four of them being penalties. Even Anthony Gordon got 10 and he scored five penlties, which is absolutely huge.
"The year before that came a selection that I like, [Serhou] Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund at 66/1 each way. He finished joint-top scorer in 2024/25 and, of course penalty takers, he got five in the League Phase and if you have a look at the fixtures -- for a penalty taker like Guirassy -- they have a very, very favourable fixture list."
"We could make hay in the League Phase -- even if Dortmund don't go deep -- I'm hopeful that with four places available the 66/1 could pay some decent returns each way."
