Rotherham United v Bradford City Prediction: 8/13 for goals to flow in Yorkshire derby

Bradford City have made the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy in two of the last three seasons and the Bantams will be hoping for another deep run following their strong start to the League One campaign.

The Bantams defeated Rotherham in the quarter-finals of this competition in 2024-25 and a 2-1 win at home to Newcastle United under-21s has them off to a winning start in Group C.

Rotherham were relegated from League One last season and they have made a mixed start to their League Two campaign, picking up 10 points from nine matches.

The Millers were held to a 1-1 draw by York City in their EFL Trophy opener and winning on penalties secured them a bonus point.

That gives both teams high hopes of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition and, while a full-strength Bradford would have the upper hand, they may have one eye on Saturday's visit from Leyton Orient.

Best Bet - Both teams to score @ 8/13

Rotherham United v Bradford City Prediction

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 8/13

Bradford have Mark Trueman and Colin Doyle at the helm on a temporary basis after Graham Alexander left to take charge of Preston North End in the Championship and that has the potential to impact performances in the short term.

A 1-1 draw away at Reading was not a bad result for the managerless Bantams and that left them second in League One, where they have lost only twice in eight outings.

However, changes are almost guaranteed with City prioritising promotion in League One and a winning start against Newcastle under-21s means even a draw would leave them in a commanding position in this group.

Bradford conceded in victory against Newcastle's youngsters and Rotherham, despite being a league below, have enough quality to get on the scoresheet.

The Millers have seen both teams score in eight of their 11 matches this season, which includes all five home games and when entertaining Championship outfit West Brom in the EFL Cup.

Alternative Bet: Nick Powell anytime goalscorer @ 13/5

Nick Powell has had to accept that he will be a valuable asset off the bench for Bradford this season and his brace against Newcastle under-21s showed that he can still be relied on when called upon.

Powell's career has been plagued by injuries, so he tends to come off the bench for a late cameo and that was the case against Newcastle, with him having three shots on target in just 33 minutes of second-half action.

The 32-year-old also scored as a substitute in a 3-1 win away at Orient in the EFL Cup in September and he may make his mark against the Millers.

While changes are likely, Bradford should still pick up a positive result at Rotherham.

The Bantams picked up four points from two meetings with relegated Rotherham in League One last season and they are unbeaten in six.

Striker Will Swan has had limited minutes in League One this season, but he has been leading the line in their cup clashes and he opened the scoring in a 3-1 win at Orient in the EFL Cup.

Rotherham’s matches in League Two this season are averaging only 8.78 corners per game and Bradford's opening game in this competition saw a total of just four flag-kicks.
