The English Football League Trophy, officially known as the Vertu Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is a midweek knockout cup competition which features all 48 clubs from League One and League Two, along with 16 invited sides from Premier League and EFL Championship clubs with Category One Academies.
Launched as the Associate Members' Cup in 1883/84, the competition was renamed the Football League Trophy in 1992 following the formation of the Premier League.
Dividing the 64 clubs into northern and southern sections, teams contest a group stage before progressing through the knockout stages.
The most successful clubs are Bristol City and Peterborough United, who have lifted the trophy three times each.
