Paris Saint-Germain v Aston Villa Prediction: Villa can stand firm in 29/10 stalemate

Paris Saint-Germain are favourites to beat Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup and James Milton has picked out his best bets for Wednesday's game in Salzburg.

The fixture pits last season's UEFA Champions League winners, PSG, against a Villa side that lifted the Europa League under Unai Emery.

Villa also finished fourth in the Premier League to cap a memorable 2025/26 campaign, but have since sold star midfielders Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers.

PSG won the UEFA Super Cup on penalties last season following a 2-2 draw with Tottenham, who led 2-0 until the 85th minute.

Paris Saint-Germain v Aston Villa Prediction

Best Bet - Draw @ 29/10

Paris Saint-Germain retained their UEFA Champions League crown last season but it was a close-run thing.

Luis Enrique's men were taken to penalties by Premier League champions Arsenal and the draw also appeals in Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup showdown with Aston Villa.

The Ligue 1 club's World Cup stars missed their 3-0 friendly defeat to Mallorca. They were also not all at full strength for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United, and the French champions were subpar in this fixture last season.

They needed two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw with Tottenham, who finished just one place above the Premier League relegation zone.

Villa had a far better league campaign and were exceptional in the Europa League, thumping Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the semi-final second leg before a 3-0 win over Freiburg in the final.

Unai Emery is missing injured midfielders Johan Manzambi and Amadou Onana but he will be highly motivated for Wednesday's clash with his former club.

Alternative Bet - Emiliano Martinez to make 4+ saves @ 5/6

Arsenal restricted PSG's forwards to one goal in 120 minutes in the UEFA Champions League final – a 65th-minute penalty from Ousmane Dembele.

Aston Villa may struggle to stifle their opponents to that extent, so their goalkeeper Emi Martinez should be backed to make four or more saves.

The Argentina star is not a popular figure in France due to his antics after the 2022 World Cup final victory over Les Bleus.

There has been speculation over his future at Aston Villa but he remains a top-class shot-stopper, averaging 2.96 saves per 90 minutes in last season's Premier League.

In PSG's last four UEFA Champions League games, the opposing keeper made four, four, five and three saves, so Martinez can expect a busy 90 minutes in Salzburg.

Paris Saint-Germain v Aston Villa Bet Builder Tip

  • Both teams to score

  • Aston Villa or draw double chance

  • John McGinn to score or assist

Pays 7/1

Both teams to score was a winning bet in eight of Aston Villa's last 10 competitive fixtures and PSG won 5-4 on aggregate when the teams met in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

PSG's first two pre-season friendly results were a 3-0 defeat to Mallorca and a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, so it could be a good time to play the French champions. Back Aston Villa or draw double chance.

Villa's summer departures increase the responsibility on John McGinn, who scored Scotland's only goal at the World Cup.

He also contributed five goals and two assists in eight Europa League starts last season.
