Nick Woltemade potential next club

Nick Woltemade is being linked with a summer move away from Newcastle United with clubs in the Premier League and across Europe believed to be interested in the striker.

Woltemade only joined the Magpies from Stuttgart in a club-record £69million deal last summer, but his future at St James' Park is looking uncertain following reports from Spain suggesting Atletico Madrid are among several clubs keen to sign him.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made it clear only last month that he did not want to lose Woltemade, who is part of Germany's squad at the World Cup, after he scored 11 goals and added five assists in all competitions in his debut campaign in England.

However, that has not stopped the rumours that he could be set to follow Anthony Gordon out of the club after the England international's recent move to Barcelona.

We assess where Woltemade could go if it does transpire he could be allowed to leave the Magpies.

Premier League

Atletico Madrid

Reports from Spanish outlet AS say Atletico are leading the race for Woltemade, who could be seen as a replacement for Julian Alvarez amid ongoing doubts over his future with the La Liga giants.

Despite wanting Alvarez to stay, Atleti officials will be looking for alternatives if the Argentinian does move on and Woltemade is apparently high on their list of targets.

The 24-year-old is likely to be attracted by the possibility of a move to Atleti, who could offer him something Newcastle can't next season - UEFA Champions League football.

Borussia Dortmund

A move back to Germany may also appeal to the striker, who progressed through the youth ranks at Werder Bremen before joining Stuttgart in 2024.

Borussia Dortmund are being touted as Woltemade's most likely destination should he make it clear he wants to head back to his home country and again BVB could use the fact they are in the UEFA Champions League next season in order to persuade him to make the move.

A player of Woltemade's quality would be welcome in the Dortmund squad and it is claimed they have made it clear to Newcastle they would be interested if he were to be made available this summer.

Newcastle are thought to want at least £55million for Woltemade, though, and that could be a figure which puts several of his suitors off.

Aston Villa

If Woltemade's preferred option is to stay in the Premier League, then a switch to Aston Villa could be on the cards.

Villa finished fourth to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, so the Germany international might be tempted by a transfer to Unai Emery's side.

Howe would be frustrated to lose Woltemade to a domestic rival, though, and when he was asked at the end of the season about Woltemade's future, he stressed he wanted to keep him at St James' Park.

Howe said: "I have said so many times, I really value and really like him. We are working really hard with him to help him.

"We will continue to develop his game, and I think he's got a really bright future here."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham are looking to improve their squad in the transfer window and they have also been tentatively linked with a summer swoop for Woltemade.

However, after only just surviving in the Premier League, they would not be able to offer Woltemade European football in the upcoming campaign and a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks unlikely at this stage.
