Having been relegated from the top tier of the Nations League in 2025, Hungary would have hoped for better with their sights lowered in Group B2.
However, a 1-0 defeat at home to Ukraine was followed by a goalless draw in Northern Ireland and that has put a lot of pressure on this fixture with Georgia in Budapest.
The Magyars were far from disgraced against stronger opposition in the Nations League in 2024/25, taking six points from Germany, Netherlands and Bosnia, but they have yet to find their range in this season’s competition.
Georgia are in a similar position, having suffered a 1-0 loss to Northern Ireland before sharing the spoils in a goalless draw with Ukraine.
A win for either would put them back in the hunt for top spot and both have a world-class operator to rely on with Hungary armed with the services of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Georgia’s attack spearheaded by Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Best Bet: Hungary to win @ 6/5
Hungary would have expected to have a win on the board already coming into their third Nations League fixture with Georgia, but they can put the poor start behind them with victory at the Puskas Arena.
The Magyars looked like a progressive outfit prior to losing 1-0 to Ukraine and time may tell that it was a good point in the 0-0 draw at Northern Ireland, who are extremely difficult to break down in Belfast.
Hungary have won four of their last seven internationals on home soil, with a draw against Greece another good result, and they held Germany and Netherlands to a point on their own patch in the Nations League in 2024.
Georgia have been struggling to create clear-cut opportunities having also fired two blanks and they have lost 10 of their last 14 matches on the road.
Alternative Bet: Willi Orban anytime goalscorer @ 10/1
Willi Orban is key for Hungary for his defensive attributes but the centre-back also carries a threat from set-pieces and could be overpriced to get on the scoresheet in a cagey contest.
The Leipzig defender had four shots in the 1-0 loss at home to Ukraine and had two more efforts in the stalemate with Northern Ireland.
The 33-year-old has scored six goals in 70 appearances and he has started the season strongly for his Bundesliga side, scoring twice in just six games.
Given Georgia’s struggles on the road, Hungary are expected to respond strongly to recent setbacks and they have suffered only three defeats in their last 13 internationals.
Hungary need their star names to stand up tall and Liverpool ace Szoboszlai can get on the scoresheet.
Szoboszlai was quiet against Northern Ireland but he has scored 18 goals in 67 caps and can rise to the occasion.
Hungary’s opening two Nations League fixtures have been fiery affairs - there were nine yellows and a red in their loss at home to Ukraine - and, given what is at stake, this must-win fixture should see plenty of card action too.
