The 2026/27 UEFA Nations League marks the fifth edition of the competition since it was launched eight years ago.
The international break can often be a tedious period in the football calendar, but the introduction of the Nations League has at least stirred a bit of excitement while club football lies temporarily inactive with the league structure creating a number of captivating fixtures between the elite nations.
Group A1 consists of France, Italy and Belgium, while Group B1 will see Germany and the Netherlands collide. Group C1 will see reigning world and Europan champions Spain reacquaint with Euro 2024 finalists England and 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia, while Portugal face stern competition from the ever-improving Norway in Group D1.
France are the favourites to be crowned UEFA Nations League winners for a second time.
Les Bleus were crowned victors of the competition in 2021 after defeating Spain 2-1 in the final. It was the second trophy Didier Deschamps achieved during his 14-year tenure as France boss, but the former Marseille chief has passed the baton over to Zinedine Zidane, who ventures back into management for the first time since leaving Real Madrid in 2021.
Spain are second in the betting after replicating the La Roja squad of 2010 by holding the European Championship and World Cup simultaneously.
Luis de la Fuente's men were impenetrable during the World Cup in the summer, conceding just one goal in the entire tournament as they defeated Argentina in the final in New Jersey.
Germany are prominent in the betting as they begin a new era with Jurgen Klopp, while England will be aiming to reach their first Nations League Finals since the inaugural edition in 2019.
Portugal boast a strong pedigree in the competition having won the Nations League twice in 2018/19 and 2024/25.
The Netherlands and Belgium are also under new management with Xavi taking charge of the Oranje, while Mark van Bommel replaces Rudi Garcia for the Red Devils.
