HJK Helsinki v Coleraine Prediction: Hosts to claim entertaining win at 2/1

HJK Helsinki are the clear favourites ahead of their UEFA Conference League qualifying tie with Northern Ireland’s Coleraine.

The Finnish side missed out on a place in the main draw of a European competition last season after four consecutive campaigns in Europe, while Coleraine were last involved in qualifying back in the 2020-21 season.

HJK are rated at 2/7 to qualify for the next round and Coleraine can be backed at 5/2.

HJK Helsinki v Coleraine Prediction

Best Bet - HJK Helsinki to win and both teams to score @ 2/1

HJK Helsinki should be able to beat Coleraine fairly comfortably in the first leg of their Conference League tie, particularly with home advantage, but the Irish visitors can at least get on the scoresheet and potentially give themselves a chance to respond in the return fixture.

The Finnish hosts have a stronger squad and their players are fully up to speed with their domestic season well under way, and with home advantage anything other than an HJK Helsinki win would register as a shock.

However, Coleraine are an ambitious outfit who have made some eye-catching moves over the summer.

Northern Ireland international Conor McMenamin is their marquee capture after the winger joined on a permanent deal from St Mirren, while fellow forward Jay Henderson has arrived from Ross County.

After finishing second in the NIFL Premiership last season, Coleraine look well placed to go one better this year, and they can at least grab a goal in the Finnish capital.

The Bannsiders scored 83 goals in 38 league games last season and have been in good scoring form over the summer, hitting 15 goals in total in six friendly games after kicking off their preparations for the new season with a 0-0 stalemate with Larne in the NIFL Charity Shield.

HJK’s defence has been vulnerable and they have just two clean sheets in their last 12 games, so they may concede in victory even if they are still able to win convincingly on Thursday.

Alternative Bet - HJK Helsinki over 2.5 team goals @ 5/4

An alternative way to back HJK Helsinki at an odds-against price is the 5/4 on offer for the home side to reach at least three goals.

HJK have the Veikkausliiga’s third-best attack with 27 goals scored in 16 games and they are capable of putting together big wins, having picked up 4-0, 11-1 and 7-1 victories in the Finnish Cup this season.

HJK have also scored at least three goals in recent league meetings with Mariehamn, Inter Turku and Jaro so they look more than capable of a convincing win in Europe this week.

HJK Helsinki v Coleraine Bet Builder Tip

  • HJK Helsinki to score in both halves

  • Both teams to score

  • Coleraine to win the most corners

    Pays @ 11/1

HJK Helsinki have enough quality in attack to cause Coleraine problems from the get-go.

The Finnish side have scored in each half in three of their last four home games and even if they have built up a healthy lead at the break they should keep pushing after the restart, while veteran Teemu Pukki provides a threat in the second half as he has largely featured from the bench in recent weeks.

Coleraine have enough attacking talent to get on the scoresheet, though, and HJK have struggled for clean sheets lately.

Backing the visitors to win the most corners is the most ambitious selection on this treble, but HJK have conceded more corners than their opponents in three of their last four games and Coleraine should be looking to make inroads through McMenamin and Henderson down the wings.

The visitors know how important set-pieces can be so the Bannsiders could win the corner count.
