Hibernian v Gent Prediction: 21/10 Boyle to help Hibs progress

Hibs and Gent battled out a goalless draw last week in the first leg of their Conference League play-off tie.

The Scottish side should be heading into the second leg with the advantage, but Owen Elding missed a first half penalty in Belgium and that means everything is to play for at Easter Road.

Neither side has played since the first leg, so both teams should be fresh and raring to go in a bid to seal a place in the league phase of the Conference League.

Hibs have never reached the league phase (group stage) of a European competition before, whereas Gent are seeking to reach this stage of the competition for the fifth consecutive season.

Hibernian v Gent Tips Summary

Best Bet - Both teams to score - Yes @ 1/1
Alternative Bet - Martin Boyle to score anytime @ 21/10
Bet Builder - Hibs to qualify, Most goals in second half & Gent over 4 corners @ 11/2

Hibernian v Gent Prediction

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 1/1

Although perhaps not the best game, both teams did have chances to score last week.

However, both will be looking to improve in front of goal throughout the second leg and the two sides can find the back of the net with progress on the line.

Despite just one goal being scored in Hibs' last three matches, both teams netted in four successive games before then.

Two of Gent's previous three matches has featured both teams scoring and, if they wish to secure league phase football for yet another campaign, Rik De Mil will have to get his side firing.

The atmosphere at Easter Road will be electric and there should be goals in this second-leg clash on Thursday evening.

Alternative Bet: Martin Boyle to score anytime @ 21/10

Martin Boyle is something of a cult figure at Easter Road and certainly has the class to help send his team through to the league phase.

The Australia international striker has scored twice and registered one assist this season, with two of those goal contributions coming in this competition.

In the second leg victory against FC Malisheva, Boyle scored and produced an assist as Hibs sealed a 4-1 win to move into the next round.

Over the years, Boyle has scored 10 goals across 18 Conference League qualifying appearances for the Edinburgh club.

In that regard, manager David Gray will be counting on him to fire Hibs into the league phase for the first time in their history.

  • Most goals in the second half

    Pays 11/2

A packed Easter Road will give Gray and his men the ideal chance to send their Belgian opponents packing, especially with a boisterous crowd in full voice.

Hibs have won both of their Conference League ties this season by an aggregate score of 6-2 and, while things will be much tougher on Thursday, the fans will do everything possible to help the Edinburgh outfit secure progress.

Gent will prove tough to break down though and the Belgian side could be dangerous in the final third.

In the first leg, Gent managed seven corners and have taken five or more in two of their previous three games. As such, expect De Mil's side to win over four corners during the game.

There has been at least one goal scored in six Hibs games this season. The second half has produced the most goals in three of those fixtures and this game could also come to life after the break.

Hibs will prove stubborn to break down, while they won't want to run out of steam early on. Gent have scored just one second half goal this season, but expect that to change at Easter Road.
