Grimsby Town v Salford City Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

The League Two play-offs get underway on Sunday as Grimsby Town host Salford City in the first leg of their semi-final tie at Blundell Park.

The Mariners snuck into the play-offs, sealing seventh place following a 1-1 draw against Tranmere Rovers in the final league game of the regular season.

Salford, on the other hand, finished fourth in League Two, falling a single point short of automatic promotion to the third tier.

A goalless draw with Crawley Town in their final game consigned City  to the play-offs for the second time in four seasons.

Grimsby Town v Salford City Tips Summary

Best Bet - Grimsby to win @ 23/20
Alternative Bet - Jaze Kabia to score anytime @ 8/5
Bet Builder - Both teams to score, Over 2 goals & Kieran Green to score or assist @ 11/4

Grimsby Town v Salford City Prediction

Best Bet: Grimsby to win @ 23/20

Although Town finished three places lower in the table than their rivals, they will be buoyed at sneaking into the playoffs.

Furthermore, the Mariners hold a solid head-to-head record against Salford in recent years.

Since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, these teams have faced each other 12 times in League Two, with Grimsby winning six of those games.

Salford have claimed victory on just three occasions, which includes only one win in the previous six meetings.

Grimsby finished the regular season with three wins from their last four matches and home advantage should prove decisive in this first leg.

Alternative Bet: Jaze Kabia to score anytime @ 8/5

Jaze Kabia made the step up from Truro City in the National League to the Football League last summer when he joined Grimsby and the move has been a productive one.

Across 46 League Two matches, he scored 17 goals, while in all competitions he finished the season with 22 goals from 55 matches, a more than decent return.

More importantly, his form leading into this play-off clash has been superb of late.

Since scoring against Fleetwood Town on March 17th, Kabia has since added another eight goals in the subsequent nine matches, including a hat-trick against Swindon Town in the penultimate league fixture.

Home boss David Artell will be hoping he extends this fine run of form into the play-offs and backing him to find the back of the net against Salford seems like a wise bet this weekend.

Grimsby Town v Salford City Bet Builder Tip

  • Both teams to score

  • Over 2 goals

  • Kieran Green to score or assist

    Pays 11/4

Two of the previous four meetings between Grimsby and Salford have featured both teams scoring.

In League Two, five of Grimsby's last six games saw both teams find the back of the net, while one of Salford's final three games would have seen this bet land.

Both teams will be looking to get a foothold in the tie, so expect there to be plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch.

This leads us nicely on to leg two of the bet builder regarding over two goals in the match. In the last meeting of these two teams the Mariners won 3-1 at home.

Dating back to the start of April, three or more goals have been scored in six of Grimsby's eight games. Although this bet would have landed in two of Salford's last eight games, there could be plenty of chances in this first leg.

Kabia will be the man tasked with firing Grimsby into the play-off final, but Kieran Green has also been outstanding in the final third this term.

The attacking midfielder has scored 13 times, while also registering seven assists in 42 league matches. Six of those goals have been scored since March 21st, with three assists coming in that period also.
