The League Two play-offs are played using a simple knockout format. The teams are seeded based on finishing positions in the league, with fourth playing seventh and fifth playing sixth over two legs in the semi-finals.
A simple aggregate score for both ties is used to decide which teams progress.
The League Two play-off final will be decided on the day, with extra-time and penalties used to find a winner if required.
Blackpool are the only team to have won promotion to League One through the play-offs three times, reaching the third tier by that method in 1992, 2001 and 2017.
Cheltenham Town, Northampton Town and Southend United have each won two play-off finals, with Northampton's behind-closed-doors win in 2020 producing a record winning margin as they beat Exeter 4-0.
Last season's final saw AFC Wimbledon earn promotion to League One after overcoming Walsall 1-0 at Wembley, thanks to a goal from Myles Hippolyte.
