Forest Green Rovers are set to commence their search for a new manager after Robbie Savage agreed terms to become the new manager of Peterborough United.
A statement on X from Forest Green chairman Dale Vince said: “We have given Robbie Savage permission to speak to Peterborough.
"He wanted to leave the club for personal reasons, reasons which we understand and respect.
"He’s been offered the job, and we’re now in a negotiation with Peterborough on the terms."
Robbie Savage had been at the helm of the National League club since July 2025 having previously been in charge of Macclesfield.

Next Forest Green Manager Contenders
Mark Hughes
Mark Hughes has emerged as a leading contender to take over at The New Lawn, according to the Stroud Times.
The former Manchester United forward was most recently in charge of Carlisle United, where he failed to orchestrate promotion back to League Two and subsequently left at the end of the season.
Hughes has a strong affiliation with Forest Green sporting director Mark Bowen, who he worked alongside at the likes of Manchester City, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.
Luke Williams
Could we see a managerial swap which witnesses Luke Williams head in the other direction to Forest Green?
Given he's ventured into the Championship and League One since departing Notts County, Williams would have to swallow his pride, but a return to the National League where he has the tools to orchestrate promotion could be a shrewd career move for the 45-year-old.
Williams rose to prominence when guiding Notts County to promotion from the National League in an epic tussle with Wrexham whilst implementing an attacking and exciting brand of football at Meadow Lane.
Vince would no doubt love to see Williams replicate the style he oversaw at Notts, and his track record in the division speaks for itself - although he will probably require great persuasion.
Stuart Maynard
Another manager with a National League promotion on his CV, Stuart Maynard will likely have the pick of fifth tier clubs after leading York City into the Football League last term.
Maynard didn't even get the chance to take charge of one League Two fixture as he was surprisingly removed from his position at the LNER Community Stadium to make way for Scott Lindsey.
York edged Rochdale to the National League title under Maynard's stewardship, romping to 108 points and scoring an astonishing 114 goals with a free-flowing style.
As Maynard assesses his options, Forest Green may match his ambitions of seeking a return to the Football League.
