Austria will make their first World Cup appearance since 1998 when they take on debutants Jordan in Group J at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Wednesday.
Ralf Rangnick’s Austria are seen as one of the dark horses for the tournament and they will be eager to get off to the perfect start.
As for Jordan, advancing into the World Cup knockouts looks like a tough task, but they did finish as runners-up to Qatar at both the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2025 Arab Cup and must be treated with respect.

Best Bet: Marcel Sabitzer to score or assist @ 20/21
Austria’s Marcel Sabitzer will be taking part in his fourth major tournament, having featured at the European Championships in 2016, 2021 and 2024.
With 26 goals across 98 appearances, the 32-year-old is his country’s ninth-highest scorer and he comes into the World Cup off the back of some fine displays.
Sabitzer has scored three times and provided two assists in his last three international appearances, against Ghana, South Korea and Tunisia.
He is one of Rangnick’s key players and with the chance to secure three points against the debutants, Sabitzer will be looking to register yet another goal contribution.
Alternative Bet: Jordan over 0.5 goals @ 5/6
Jordan may be the underdogs in this match, but they might take some inspiration from the likes of Qatar, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Australia, with the quartet managing to take points against more illustrious opposition at this World Cup.
Rather than turning towards the outcome of the match, backing Jordan to score at least once looks more appealing, especially considering that they can pose problems.
Jordan have scored against Switzerland, Nigeria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia since last November, with those four nations all competing at the World Cup.
Austria to win
Both teams to score
Both teams to receive a card
Pays 4/1
Considering ties against Argentina and Algeria come next for Austria, getting off to a winning start is imperative if they wish to finish as one of the top two in the group.
As such, Rangnick will be going all out to secure Austria’s first World Cup victory since a 2-1 win over the USA in the group stage at Italia 90.
While Austria should have more than enough firepower to defeat Jordan, the Asian side will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet.
Both teams have scored in two of Austria’s last four matches, while this bet would have landed in four of Jordan’s last five games.
Both teams have also received a card in three of Austria’s last four games, with Rangnick’s side receiving one booking in all four of those matches.
Jordan had a man sent off in their final friendly game against Colombia, while both teams have received at least one booking in four of their last six matches.
